For more than twenty years, Patrick has represented private clients, businesses, and insureds in a diverse array of legal disputes. He has handled matters involving general tort and liability defense, professional malpractice (focusing on legal malpractice, real estate agents & brokers errors and omissions, and insurance agents & brokers errors and omissions), products liability law, real property disputes involving land use and zoning, boundary disputes, easements, and restrictive covenants. His work occasionally includes probate litigation, diverse business and commercial matters arising in contract and in tort, unfair and deceptive trade practices, anti-trust, environmental litigation relating to the discharge of petroleum products and toxic substances, civil rights, and employment discrimination matters.

Noteworthy Accomplishments, Honors & Awards

  • First chair in more than twenty civil jury and bench trials in Connecticut state and federal courts.
  • Second chair in several high-exposure catastrophic injury cases involving issues of product liability, wrongful death, professional malpractice and unfair trade practices.
  • Negotiated a global settlement on behalf of a regional transit authority in a case involving over one million dollars in potential exposure and multiple claimants, including the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation. The case arose from the discharge of more than 15,000 gallons of diesel fuel from a bus depot and storage facility.
  • Recovered $775,000 for the beneficiaries of an “after-discovered will” in a case raising issues of first impression under Connecticut probate law.
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a local parish in a high-profile case involving allegations of clerical abuse.
  • Obtained a favorable settlement on behalf of a commercial real estate broker in a matter involving alleged violations of the Connecticut Transfer Act and Unfair Trade Practices Act, and potential liability for subsurface site conditions discovered after closing.
