On October 27, the Morrison Mahoney Professional Practices group presented the themed mock trial “As You Wish (the Coverage Was)” at The BIG Event and annual meeting of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents. Using characters from The Princess Bride, but taking facts from actual cases, they presented an example of the types of situations that lead to claims against insurance brokers. This original mock trial is one of the premier programs at The BIG Event, the Annual Conference & Trade Show of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA).
Shown here (L to R): Mike Beers as Plaintiff’s Counsel, Mike Hayden as plaintiff Inigo Montoya, Steve Bolotin, Co-chair of the Professional Practices Group, creator of the mock trial fact pattern and playing the role of the Judge, Ed Landers, Co-chair of the Professional Practices Group and playing the role of defendant Westley, Alan Brown as plaintiff expert Vizzini, Rebecca Robertson as Defendant’s Counsel, Jackie Welch as defendant Buttercup, Brian Gibbons as Defendant’s Counsel, and Avana Anderson as Plaintiff’s Counsel
The BIG Event took place October 25–28, 2018, at the Marriott Copley place in Boston, MA, and sponsored by Swiss Re, a leader in professional and management liability coverage. As part of Appreciation Saturday, a day during the conference dedicated to agency staff, attorneys from Morrison Mahoney served as judge, attorneys, and witnesses, while audience members decided who won. This was Morrison Mahoney’s 4th decade participating and 17th consecutive year as mock trial hosts in support of MAIA’s annual BIG Event and enjoyed its best turnout yet.
