Bart is of counsel in the Springfield office of Morrison Mahoney. He has been a trial lawyer for 30 years, beginning his private practice career as an associate in a mid-sized New Jersey law firm in 1994. In that time, he tried five cases as sole defense counsel in the New Jersey courts of general jurisdiction (New Jersey Superior Court), winning defense jury verdicts in three premises liability actions, and also successfully recovering unpaid rent and damages on a commercial lease (as local trial counsel for a national law firm), and successful recovery on the breach of a residential real estate contract.
From 2000 to 2023, Bart served as an Assistant Attorney General in Massachusetts within the Trial and Administrative Law Divisions of the Government Bureau. As an AAG, Bart’s trial practice was varied, including a defense jury verdict on behalf of Hampshire County Sheriff Robert Garvey, a defense jury verdict on behalf of Springfield Technical Community College in an action arising under the Massachusetts Whistleblower Act, and two defense jury verdicts in actions alleging negligence against the Department of Children and Families arising from the sexual assault of children. He argued frequently in the Massachusetts Appeals Court and conducted a special cross-bureau investigation on a matter of public integrity at the request of Attorney General Maura Healey, while also serving as a member of AG Healey’s Ethics Committee from its inception.
Bart joined Morrison Mahoney in November of 2023. In his free time, Bart enjoys fostering shelter dogs and serving as First Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Westfield State University.
