Morrison Mahoney Partner Alan Brown recently obtained a dismissal in a BBO matter. (The BBO is the attorney licensing authority in Massachusetts.) The complainant, a physician, alleged that the respondent-lawyer charged an excessive fee in connection with the lawyer’s handling of a contested guardianship case that included a request to administer anti-psychotic medication. Complicating the matter, the respondent-lawyer had previously been reprimanded publicly for excessive billing practices. After reviewing Alan’s comprehensive written submission detailing the history of the representation and explaining the charges, the BBO dismissed the matter on the papers and without conducting any further proceedings.
